With the permission of the Artist and gallery management, I took photos of the entire exhibition. Please don’t use these images in any publication or other website without first gaining permission from Australian Galleries.
Tina and I met Inge King for the first time at the opening on 28 July. This exhibition has so many great works! Gallery Director Stuart Purves lead the seventy or so guests in a rousing Three Cheers! for Inge King – and spoke of the power of her work. The opening was also the occasion for the launch of the second book on
Inge Kings sculpture, concentrating on her smaller works: Inge King with an extensive essay by Judith Trimble and a shorter essay by Ken McGregor. Please use “Inge King” in the search box at www.palgravemacmillan.com.au to purchase this beautiful book. The first book, Inge King Sculptor, 1996 can only be found second-hand.
These images give some impression of the works, but they are merely pictures of gutsy three-dimensional objects, with camera noise and limited blue in the artificial light. The sculptures were well lit, but the backgrounds were very neutral. The sculptures look far better in real life than in these pictures. This page covers the stainless steel works, the larger bronzes and some of the smaller bronzes.
I imagine the stainless steel sculptures outdoors – bold, bright and everlasting in the sunlight, moonlight, wind and rain.
I have included some short MPG videos to give an idea of the three-dimensional nature of the works. These run for 15 seconds are are about 5 megabytes.
Dimensions in cm.
Photo Details: Camera Sony: F707. Barrel and pincushion correction: PTLens. I have not applied any gamma correction. The brightness scale is linear, so the mid-tones may appear darker than they should on some monitors.
